Badge for the campaign against the Soviet Union. Rare!
Our next favorite metal detecting find is this Slovak Badge for the campaign against the Soviet Union, III. class in bronze (The Slovak Anti-Communism badge), found by Mojmir.
He wrote: “Hello, I am a friend of SlavicTeam. Something about the find: This is the Slovak WW2 Badge for the campaign against the Soviet Union (also: The Slovak Anti-Communism badge), III. class in bronze (actually the rarest of all 3 classes.), awarded in Slovak army (1942-45). The yellowish woolen cloth is still very well preserved. The yellow woolen cloth was a version for cavalry I think. It was kind of unexpected, but made me really happy.”
Informations (Wikipedia.org): “The Slovak Army group attached to the 17th German Army attacked the Soviet 12th Army. Along with the 17th German army and Hungarian army, the group submitted the Slovak army deep into southern Russia. During the Battle of Uman (3 to 8 August 1941), a mechanized body of the Carpathian Group formed double wings encircling the 6th and 12th Soviet units. During this struggle, 20 Soviet divisions were destroyed or surrendered. From 1942 to 1944 only the Slovak 1st Division was kept on the frontline, fighting in the Caucasus area and later in the southern Ukraine.” (And later also in Italy.)
He is using the XP Gold Maxx metal detector.
What a find! Congratulations!
